1 適用範囲
この規格は，客船及び商船に乗る全ての人，特に乗組員の居住性に関する振動計測，評価及び記録基準について規定する。
この規格は，船舶の様々な区画に対して，周波数範囲1 Hz〜80 Hzの周波数重み付けオーバーオールr.m.s.値のガイドライン値を示す。
この規格は，24時間以上の航行を意図する客船及び商船に適用できる。
この規格では，常時滞在する区画における振動の計測装置及び計測方法の要件を規定し，また，居住性に関する船舶振動の解析方法及び評価のガイドラインも示す。
船酔いにつながり得る船体の低周波運動の評価に関しては，JIS B 7760-2を参照。ただし，船体の全体構造振動の評価に関しては，ISO 20283-2を参照。 注記 この規格の対応国際規格及びその対応の程度を表す記号を，次に示す。
ISO 20283-5:2016，Mechanical vibration−Measurement of vibration on ships−Part 5: Guidelines for measurement, evaluation and reporting of vibration with regard to habitability on passenger and merchant ships（IDT） なお，対応の程度を表す記号“IDT”は，ISO/IEC Guide 21-1に基づき，“一致している”ことを示す。
